Crash Course in Chicago Life

While I may not be fully moving to Chicago until the end of May P. starts work today so that meant we had a busy weekend. First, there was the road trip to get our car and move some supplies for P., then there was the apartment hunting, and lastly getting acquainted with the Chicago running scene. Needless to say it was a busy busy weekend!

Chicago Our road trip was fun and thankfully uneventful. Road trips are full of snacking so you know that my diet suffered. As my mom says road trips are the time to eat all of the junk that you never eat any other time (Hello Hot Tamales, what is your road trip snack?)

Saturday morning we got up early for a full day of apartment hunting. The team at Luxury Chicago Apartments were great at planning out the whole day for us. We wanted a two bedroom place in a walkable neighborhood. By the end of the day apartments were mixing together but we found our new home! Flair Towers in River North. I am beyond happy for the layout of the place and the floor to ceiling windows. My pinterest page is going to come to life! I can’t wait to share with you all once its fully decorated. The picture below is our place with the current tenants furniture.

We were so exhausted at the end of the day. Comfy new yoga pants and red wine was a must that evening…

What is the most romantic thing P. could have done for me this weekend? He found a local race to help me get involved with the Chicago running scene! He is so sweet to have encouraged that we do the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle. We were still pretty exhausted but had a solid 8K run. I think it was my fastest 8K actually, at an 8:23 min/mile pace. Forty five thousand people ran the race with us. It was well organized and flat… maybe I will enjoy running here after all! We also got to spend some time with P.’s brother and soon to be sister-in-law.

The rest of the day was filled with brunch with friends, furniture shopping and checking out our new neighborhood.

I’ll be hanging out here in Chicago until Friday then I wont be back until we are 100% moved. After work I’ll be checking out workout classes around the city. I need a good barre and yoga studio. Any recommendations?

Also just for fun here is my future dog… #LOVE

Yay! My friend hyedi from minneapolis was there and ran it. I would say you should find a local running store, or lululemon. Lulu will have the free yoga classes, and the run store should have some kind of run group.

  3. Wow! So much excitement! Your new apartment is just gorgeous, and I love, love the mega-sized windows – for me, huge windows are a must! Chicago is my favorite big city, and I just know you guys will love it – so much culture, plus lovely architecture, fab restaurants and a pretty decent fitness scene! Oh – and my favorite road trip snack? Ok, honestly it’s any of our THK Snack Bites (please don’t think I’m lame for not going the Hot Tamales route)!! I love ’em because they travel so well, taste like a yummy indulgence yet keep me feeling positive and powered up instead of sugar-crashed and groggy (see – that’s not too lame, right!?!?! :D). Yay for your new adventures!!!!
