I do a lot of traveling for races, it comes with the territory of trying to do a half marathon in every state! While I love traveling and I love exploring new cities it can be stressful making sure you don’t forget anything.
In the past I have been known to forget things like body glide or chews to take during the race. Those are usually no big deal because you can grab them at most expos or local drug stores. BUT sometimes I forget big ticket items like… pants or sports bras. Those are not easy to replace and can cause serious chaffing problems.
Because I am very forgetful I developed this little go to race check list when I pack. I usually lay everything out before stuffing it in my suitcase.
- Ready to go pre-race breakfast
- Gels, chews or other race nutrients
- Body Glide
- Sports bra
- Pants/ Shorts
- Running top
- Hair ties
- 2 Pairs socks
- Extra safety pins
- Clothes for changes in weather (Raincoat, layers etc.)
- Garmin watch
- Ipod Shuffle
- Driver License to pick up packet and get through security
If I forget anything else its no biggie BUT forgetting pants is not an option, ever again
Its only 2 days until I head to Madison for the Madison Mini Marathon. Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions on where to eat/ what to do in the area. It is going to be a really fun weekend. I think I’m shooting for a “relaxed” race with a 2 hour finish. Fingers crossed my flight out of NYC is not delayed Friday night cause I’ll need all the sleep I can get!
What special things do you pack when you are headed to a non local race?
