Weekend in Denver

Denver- Not So Perfect Life

P and I spent an amazing 43 hours in Denver this weekend. We make a trip to the mile high city every year for his nephews birthday. It’s hard to believe that his nephew is 6 years old, time flies.

Every year the trip is very short but a lot of fun. I really love Denver and Colorado in general. It’s such a nice change from busy NYC. Plus it’s such an active city with a lot of character. I wish I lived part time in Colorado, I think it would really bring out my outdoor side. I might also actually develop a taste for craft beer, there are so many local breweries around the area.

So here was out 42 hours schedule:

9:30 PM Friday Land in Denver.

Try to sleep as much a possible for the busy weekend.

9 AM Saturday breakfast at Einstein Brothers (YUM).

11 AM Hike at Eldorado State Park on the Rattlesnake Trail.

2 PM Amazing salad at a local place called Tokyo Joe’s.

3 PM Relax and play with the nephews.

6 PM Rockies game, much time was spent teaching the two boys how to eat pistachios and peanuts.

9 PM Rain delay caused the game to be put on hold so we headed for the bars to do some craft beer taste testing. The one beer that stood out to me was called Vanilla Porter, I didn’t love it because it was so heavy BUT it tasted like vanilla and chocolate.

8 AM Sunday quick 4 mile run through the neighborhood in Stapleton.

11 AM Birthday party starts at a gymnastics center.

2 PM Pack and say goodbye.

4 PM Flight takes off headed back to the city.

A great weekend :)

Some would say its crazy to fly across the country for that short of a time, but I say no way. It was refreshing to get out of the city and to see family. I wouldn’t have wanted to spend the weekend any other way.

Have you spent much time in Colorado? What outdoor activity is your favorite?

  1. I would say it’s definitely NOT crazy to fly across the country for only a weekend – who cares what the time line is, it’s always fun!!! And judging by your photos, it looks like you had a great time in Colorado! I’ve never been there, but maybe one day!

  5. What an awesome weekend! I’ve never been to Denver, but it looks gorgeous! My all-time favorite outdoor activity is drinking on patios at a BBQ, but if we’re talking about fitness I’d have to say running :-)

I’ve only ever driven through Colorado. It snowed on us in June! Obviously not from CO but Oregon is an outdoorsy, beer loving state. It’s hard to be around so many opportunities for hiking/camping/outdoors and not become at least semi outdoorsy. And keep giving craft beers a try! They’re awesome, and if you’re going to be drinking alcohol might as well get the most interesting experience you can :)

  7. I love your forty something hours in Denver! We’re driving down to the Red Rocks later this fall for a family road trip (aka, a rock show!) It’s so pretty down there. Especially north of the Coors area in the fall. Glad you had so much fun!

  10. Hey Reba. It looks like you had a great get away weekend! I don’t think it’s silly to fly cross country for a weekend, I mean why not. You had a great get away and a change of scenery. I think we all need to get out of our routines and comfort zones sometimes. I also think you’re one amazing aunt to travel out for your nephews birthday each year. It just shows what a loving and special person you are. He’s a lucky little guy :) xoxo, Jackie
