July is National Ice Cream month thanks to President Reagan and I think I have been celebrating it pretty well. Since I’m trying to deduce my sweets intake I thought I would share with you an all natural sweet frozen treat that I discovered, vegan pineapple dole whip.  I have said this before but I’ll say it again if you do not follow Katie at Chocolate Covered Katie you need to be.

Last month she posted a recipe for homemade Dole Whip. For those of you who do not know what this is you have to try it. The first time I had dole whip was at Disneyworld in Fantasy Land. It is one of my must have snacks when I got there! Apparently its even vegan naturally, a much more processed version but vegan none the less. The second time I found Dole Whip was at the Dole plantation in Hawaii. If you’ll remember in May I went back to Hawaii and shockingly never got the chance to have any. I was really bummed out about it but that made me even more thrilled when Katie posted her recipe for a homemade version.

The homemade Dole Whip version is all natural and made of mostly just pineapple. I added a bit of rice whip to my serving last night as a bonus treat. Pineapple, a bit of almond milk and a pinch of salt blended in a high powered blender, that’s it. Katie’s recipe calls for 2 tablespoons of sugar but mine was fine without it. I love baking and making deserts with Pineapple because it’s so full of sweet goodness naturally.

Words can not express how smooth and creamy the texture of this vegan Pineapple Dole Whip is, it is my new favorite dessert. I can see it helping me get over my frozen yogurt addiction.

To get the soft serve look just fill a ziplock bag with your freshly blended whip and cut a corner of the bag to pipe into a bowl. If your blender takes awhile and the whip is a bit melted just put the whip in for fridge for a bit. I made my whip before dinner and let it set in the fridge while we ate. Such a great end to the night!

Vegan Pineapple Dole Whip

Recipe by Katie at Chocolate Covered Katie

2 Cups Frozen Pineapple (1 16 Ounce Bag)

1/4 Cup Almond Milk

Pinch of Salt

Directions:

1) Add all ingredients into a high speed blender and mix until smooth.

  2. wow i never heard of dole whip- looks/ sounds delicious!! and thank you ex-president reagan for ice cream month!! ive been celebrating the way i do the rest of the year and eating froyo non stop. the kid who works at the froyo place by me knows my “usual”. not bragging, more like, confessing. maybe ill ease up in august, but i feel its my patriotic duty to eat as much of it as possible this month :)

  10. I love making my own froyo with frozen fruit! In fact, I just had some for lunch. I add in spinach and cucumber and you can’t even taste it. I usually use banana or mango, but I love the pineapple idea!

      Spinach and pineapple are a good combo. Its one of my favorite fresh juices. I wish I liked cucumber but I can taste it in just about anything!
