Scenes from DC and the Nike Women’s Half Marathon

Man I am tired! A busy work trip followed by a fun weekend with some of my best girlfriends has me really wiped out but I’m so happy I got to take the trip down to DC. Friday I was planning on going for a run around the monuments in the Capital but a foot problem had me sidelined all weekend. Hopefully I will be back up and running tomorrow.

So instead of a run I went for a nearly 4 mile walk…

For dinner Caitlin took me to a local Thai place and then we went to grab a vegan dessert at Sticky Fingers. The place even had vegan marshmallows. I can not wait to bake with them.

Saturday we slept in then went to the Nike Women’s Half Marathon expo. I am sooo jealous that I wasn’t running the race but it was nice to scope it out before paying the huge 165 dollar price tag for the event!

The “expotique” as they called it was amazing! It was definitely one of the more unique ones I have been to, very high tech with live tweet boards and it was full of energy. They even had a makeup station and hair salon to get fixed up. It was ridiculous and definitely an expo made for women.

After the expo we grabbed some lunch and headed to the park to goof around, as per the usual.

Race day I got up bright and early to make it to a few of the spots along the course. I spotted by friends at miles 6,10 and the finish. They did awesome and I’m seriously so proud of them for doing it!

I know its crazy but I get emotional watching people race. I know not everyone out there is an athlete  or setting a new PR but it’s so amazing to watch people push themselves. I find it really inspiring. I had a good time watching the sub 1:50 runners race by me. I know I will break 1:50 this year, and seeing people run it makes me want it even more.

The Nike Women’s Half Marathon in DC is definitely on my must run list for next year! Such a fun weekend in our Nation’s Capital and it was so nice to have some girl time with my friends.

I just read a race recap and think I want to do this race at some point! I didn’t realize it was so expensive plus travel costs but seems like it would be a lot of fun!

  5. I hope your foot feels better soon! Those pics make the event look super fun. I’ve never been to DC before, but it looks like a very pretty city.
