This weekend I spent some much needed time with Kimberley, my best friend form high. I had not seen her since her wedding in November so it was wonderful to get to catch up with her. We spent all saturday shopping and having some good meals.
Since Kim is training for the OKC Memorial Half Marathon that is in three weeks and I have the More Women’s Half next weekend we decided to do the annual NYRR Colon Cancer 15K on Sunday for our long training run. The race didn’t start until 10:15 AM so we had plenty of time to sleep in and rest our feet from the miles of walking we did shopping the day before.
With 2,425 of our closest friends plus the thousands of walkers who walked the 5K on the same day we ran to raise money for colon cancer research. It was a beautiful spring day and honestly the best weather we have had since October!
At the start of the race Kim estimated that she would feel good with running at a pace of 10:30 per mile. I told her I would let her set the pace and I would just following her lead.
The course is nearly two loops of the bottom five miles in Cnetral Park, it is by no means an easy run. When we made it around the park for the first loop we were doing pretty good, keeping a pretty solid pace of 10 minute miles! The last time I ran with Kim was at the Diva Wahine Half Marathon in Hawaii two years ago, Kim has really made some improvements on her running since then. I’m so proud of her.
We finished with an official pace of 10 min miles. A PR for Kim, not that she has run many if any other 15k’s, but still an accomplishment! In my opinion I think Kim is going to set an awesome new PR in a couple of weeks.
I am very appreciative that Kim flew up to spend the weekend with me. I really do have some great friends. Sometimes you just need to spend time with the people who you love. Life gets busy and but great friends are always there when you need them most.
What is the last time you had a weekend with your best friend?
P.S After this weekends good long run I’m feeling more positive about the half marathon next weekend. I think I can do it. Plus Insanity is really whipping me into great shape. So far so good!
