I’ve run the 2010 WDW Marathon, the 2010 Disneyland Half Marathon and the 2012 Disney Princess Half Marathon. In my opinion Disney puts on some of the best races EVER. Although they are expensive, you get to experience a world class running event and you get to run through the parks.
One of the lessons we learned from the marathon is that the VIP tent is a must for the 26.2 distance. Since Disney races start SOOO early in the morning its nice to be able to relax in a covered space and to have private bathrooms. For this years goofy challenge we bought VIP tent passes for just marathon morning and not for the morning of the half.
in 2010 Amanda and I decided we wanted to get the coast to coast medals (IE running at both Disney World and Disneyland in the same calendar year.) So we went to Disneyland for the half marathon and had a blast! I even set a new PR at the time.
I am so lucky that Amanda is as nuts about Disney as I am. Earlier this year we did the Disney Princess Half Marathon. It’s definitely a lot more fun to run a half marathon around the parks than a full in 20 degree weather! I dragged my boyfriend along and two other gal pals for the race as well. We all got dressed up for the occasion!
Sometime last spring we decided that it was now or never to do the goofy challenge. I would be coming off of the Atlantic City marathon and Amanda would be coming off of the NYC marathon (or so she thought!). It was also the 20th anniversary of the marathon with a new course and Disney was promising a special surprise at mile 20. How could we resist!? We will also be traveling down with a few of my running buddies from New York and Georgia.
Although I’m excited for the trip and the races I am not thrilled about the training. Since I decided that 2013 was the year I get back in shape and stop following a training schedule I figured I will be able to man up and train for two more months. And what a better way to start off 2013.
My training schedule is very much like the Atlantic city marathon schedule primarily running only 2 days. The major differences is I have significantly reduced the mileage of my long runs. Here is a sneak peak of what I’ll be doing the next few weeks:
|Dec 31-6||Cross||ST||Cross||ST||Rest||4 m run||8|
I am actually looking forward to some of the long runs, hopefully my feet can handle all of the miles! I will let you know how it goes.
I was going to start training last weekend but our trip to Oklahoma for my friend Kim’s wedding was a packed weekend. It was so nice to take Peter home with me and I was thrilled to be Kim’s maid of honor. It was a beautiful wedding!
Inspired by Saturday’s night of dancing, I will be taking my first Zumba class in a long time tonight. Lets hope my calves and feet can take the heat!
